When you'd see it: Windows and enterprise IT. AD is how most companies manage user accounts, devices, and access.

Why it matters: Active Directory is Microsoft's directory service, the backbone of identity and access in most corporate networks. Logging into a work laptop, reaching a shared drive, and group permissions usually run through AD.
