Neural net architecture specialized for grid data -- primarily images.

When you'd see it: Machine learning involving images or video: medical imaging, quality inspection, photo tagging.

Why it matters: CNNs are the neural-network design that made computer vision practical, by detecting visual patterns wherever they appear in an image. If a product "sees," a CNN is often underneath.
