acronymSecurity & ComplianceSenior

When you'd see it: Any product that might be used by children under 13, and the review before launching consumer apps or games.

Why it matters: COPPA restricts collecting data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. The penalties are steep, so products either build real consent flows or actively keep under-13 users out.

Common mistakes: Assuming COPPA only applies to kids' products. It applies to any service that knowingly collects data from under-13 users, which can pull in general-audience apps.
