dashboard
Analytics Dashboard
A visual display of key metrics on one screen — usually charts, numbers, and trend lines that update automatically from underlying data sources.
When you'd see it: Every meeting that opens with "let me share my screen" usually shows a dashboard. Common tools: Tableau, Power BI, Looker, Google Data Studio. Most companies have 50-200 of them; most are ignored, a few drive every leadership decision.
Why it matters: Dashboards are how data becomes a habit. If a metric is not on someone's dashboard, no one is watching it. Knowing what is on a dashboard — and what is not — tells you what an organization actually cares about, not what it claims to care about.
Common mistakes: Mistaking dashboard count for analytics maturity. A team with 200 dashboards usually has worse decision-making than a team with 5 that get used daily. The right metric beats the most metrics.
