When you'd see it: Enterprise identity and access. LDAP is how many systems look up users and groups, often backed by Active Directory.

Why it matters: LDAP is the long-standing protocol for querying a central directory of users, groups, and permissions. It is foundational plumbing for enterprise authentication, even where newer protocols sit on top.
