Low-hanging Fruit

Easy wins — tasks or improvements that require minimal effort relative to their impact and should be addressed before harder, higher-effort initiatives.

When you'd see it: Strategy sessions, roadmap prioritization, project kickoffs. 'Let's start with the low-hanging fruit' is a recommendation to tackle easy, high-impact items first to build momentum before tackling harder problems.

Why it matters: Low-hanging fruit is a legitimate prioritization concept — early wins build credibility, generate momentum, and produce faster ROI. The risk is when organizations only ever pick low-hanging fruit and avoid the harder, higher-value work that would require sustained effort.

Common mistakes: Applying the label to items that aren't actually easy. 'This is low-hanging fruit' sometimes means 'I want to do this and I'm framing it as easy to reduce objections.' Before acting on the label, verify that the item actually requires minimal effort and has meaningful impact.
