Recovery Time Objective

Max acceptable time to restore service after a failure.

When you'd see it: Disaster recovery planning, paired with RPO. RTO sets the target for how fast service must come back.

Why it matters: RTO is the longest you can be down before the impact is unacceptable. A tight RTO requires hot standby systems and automation, which cost more than a slow restore from backup.
